During their trip down the Mississippi, we often joked about Team Blue's encounters with "flying carp." Actually, these fish are dangerous and have become a major nuisance to America's rivers.
Thank YOU for introducing me to WAB! I think it's awesome you share the experience with your daughter.
Makes me think of that old Faberge Organic Shampoo commercial, " tell two friends and so on and so on..." I've told more than 600 about WAB just since Friday!
Thank you...sorry for the delay I don't get to check this as often as I would like! I am just thoroughly impressed with the endeavour all of the kayakers have taken on!
Donnie,
Would love to join the "Blue" group as they pass through this part of the river but I will be making the final leg of my own Mississippi River odyssey with my kayaking buddy Danny. We will be leaving from Vicksburg, Ms. Sept 19th and hope to arrive at mile zero by Oct 1st. I started solo from Lake Itasca July 31. 2005 and made it back to Cape Girardeau, Mo 41 days later. Since then Danny and I have done a week a year and made it to Vicksburg last fall. My best wishes to the "Blue" group for a safe, fun and successful trip.
As a fellow flat-water kayaker and water conservationist, I applaud your undertaking down the mighty Mississippi (wow, I haven't spelled that word since grammar school!). I work for The River Exchange, a non-profit watershed stewardship organization in Northern California at the headwaters of the equally mighty Sacramento River. Check out our website www.riverexchange.org. Our water issues are a little different - everybody wants to bottle what we have! We do restoration projects, educational programs, and involve our mountain communities in clean-ups, restoration, and propagation programs. You guys rock!
Hey Donnie, I definitely would like to talk to you about their stop in Bemidji, It was a very fun stop. I went to 209 bar with them the night before and talked about their journey. then paddled with them across lake bemidji the next day. It was a good stop. I can forget about terry's terrific fish fry dinner and him doing a Native American tobacco blessing on their send off. It was very rewarding meeting these guys. It is great how Kevin, had a dream and just went for it!
Hi Donnie, thanks for the kind words. Kevin told me you might like to do a interview, when they were in Bemidji, and it would be my pleasure to help out any way I can. Making my living on the Wild and Scenic portion of the Mississippi River, taking people canoeing, and fishing the lakes in the area that the river flows through, is my job and my passion. And once in a while I get lucky enough to be involved with a group of people who really can make a difference in the future of the river, that I love so much. Meeting Kevin, Brian, and Danielle, was such an occasion, I was so impressed with their mission and enthusiasm. Give me a E or call to set up a time to chat about this river, that flows through all our lives, and makes us better for it. Blessed by the Blue, Terry Larson, Northern Adventures Guide Service, Cass Lake, Mn. 218-335-2078
Got your e-mail, I've been praying all along for the team's safety!!! You are--in fact--an answer to those prayers!!!Your knowledge will be a very valuable asset for the kayakers. Thank-you thank-you thank-you dear Donnie.
